I Love Susan Boyle

Susan Boyle, the most unassuming person, stunned me with her rendition of "I Dreamed a Dream" from Les Miserables on the "Britain's Got Talent" show.

Her looks alone, frumpy and completely unpopular looking, garnered plenty of dismissive looks from the show's judges and the audience.

However, a star did shine on April 11th. And one Susan Boyle glittered like a billion stars.

The 47-year-old most unlikely hero and most unlikely overnight sensation, stunned the judges, including the host, Simon Cowell, where they all gave her a resounding three "yes's" for her soaring rendition.

Her performance, which not only won over the audience, also has made her an overnight Internet sensation where videos of her performance have garnered millions of hits on Youtube and other sites.

On blogs, viewers have posted their emotional comments. I've myself have seen her video more than a dozen times, and each time I cry because her singing touched a part of me as it has millions of people. Check it out here:

Why am I writing about Susan Boyle? She's has nothing to do with marketing, DubLi or anything else to do with business. What she did was more than what any marketer can do or has ever done, or would dream of doing.  In her own way( much like Paul Potts, too), in her own unsophisticated simplicity, she touched millions with her soaring siren voice that hits you right in the heart. You would have to be deaf or have a heart of pure stone not to be moved by her voice and her performance as the crowd rose to its feet in awe and joy.

And, in her pixie-like manner with moxie and so much heart, she touched millions with her honesty and her heart. Bravo to Susan Boyle!

Marketers of all stripes need to be humbled by Susan Boyle. Lose the hype and all the glitzy crap of "last-minute" offers and "this is too good to be true" junk and the next bandwagon of niche this and niche that, and play it straight. Play to your customers and prospects hearts with honesty and a straight message.

On first looks Susan Boyle, the lady from Scotland didn't have anything sell or anything that anyone wanted to buy. After the first notes came out of her mouth, and she simply sang out her heart, she touched so many of us. Now, so many want something from Susan Boyle: to hear her sing. To see the likely underdog win.  Go Susan! And, thank you.
